## First Assignment
Hi I'm Jana and I'm studying [Digital Humanities](https://www.leipzig-studieren.de/digital-humanities-bsc/). I'm living in [Leipzig](https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Leipzig) for 7 years now and I love it.
### My Expectations about Digital Humanities
* to make new experiences
* to learn more about linguistic data processing
* to work hand in hand with people of different departments on interesting projects
## My expectations for "Coding For Humanities"
I hope to aquire proper skills in coding, as I have none at all. So far im enjoying it, so I'm quite optimistic.
#### Furthermore I look forward to:
* Getting to know my fellow students
* Working on a group project
On slightly different note, in honor of his Nobel prize win, [here](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pjYvfvpiJSs) is a live version of my favourite Bob Dylan song.
### my expectations
- learn something about coding
- get some experience with Python and R
- excited to work with other persons on a big project

#Expectations from the course "Introduction for Digital Humanities"
Do I expect something? **NO** ![grin](http://www.smileygarden.de/smilie/Frech/smileymania.at_00348.gif)
*Only joking*
No, this is no **title**...
Oups, there has to be a title here?
-----------------------------------
Just trying markdown out a little.
* I hope to be able in the end of this course to code for papyrologists
* to be able to understand all the discussions on the ![MarkUp-MailingList](http://lsv.uky.edu/archives/markup.html)
* seeking for new fields for a papyrologists and his/her knowledge
* to be able to start a little coding project on my own some day

1. Another way to make lists
2. but you wanted a bullet point list...
Okay, I think I made my little point(s). Nice to play.
Thank you very much for this course. I hope we will learn well all the nice things you mentioned during your first lecture...
All best,
Nadine.

Hi, my name is Alexander, and I'm both a graduate student in [Musicology](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Musicology) and an undergraduate student in [Digital Humanities](http://whatisdigitalhumanities.com/).
## Expectations
During the *Coding for Humanities* seminar, I hope to learn:
* something about data formats
* basics in XML, Python, and R
* how to work collaboratively on a DH project
# How I created this Markdownfile and what it did with my expectations for this course
## a summary by Anna D.
### Things I did while creating this file
* wonder what I was actually supposed to do
* thinking sticking with my cultural studies would have been not a bad idea
* *cry*, just kidding
* drink tea
* google: 'markdown file'
* find [This] (https://guides.github.com/features/mastering-markdown/) it was quite the revalation
### What are my expectations?
1. Be out of my comfort zone alot
2. Learn about things and ways of thinking I have never heard of
3. Be absolutely frustrated and confused at least once
4. Get through that
And to finish this of: [Sometimes I dont listen to David Tennant] (https://s-media-cache-ak0.pinimg.com/236x/3e/a9/28/3ea928e5535f0e3f42947545722456f6.jpg)

# Coding for Digital Humanities
My name is Lukas. I am currently enrolled in the Digital Humanities Bachelor Course. I already studied two semesters of Linguistics here in Leipzig and chose to switch my major to Digital Humanities during the seminar „Kreativität und Technik / Wissen in der modernen Gesellschaft“ last semester, which explored the possiblities of digital methods in humanities from a technical aswell as a philosophical point of view and has drawn my interest do Digital Humanities as a whole.
#### Student Expectations
From the Coding for Digital Humanities Seminar, and the lecture aswell, I expect:
- a deeper understanding concerning the technical background of the digital methods applied
- an overview of the possible fields of application of Digital Humanities
- working on a project to apply the knowledge gained
[This](http://www.reactiongifs.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/10/woah.gif) .gif sums it up pretty accurately.

## Class Expectations
I assume this just is supposed to be some kind of lorem ipsum placeholder text.
However, in case it is not here are a few words on my expectations of this
class: After finishing my Master's thesis in political science last summer,
I felt that the approach I pursued within this thesis, which can be characterized as
computer-driven text analysis which was used to determine political preferences of political
actors on the basis of speeches they delivered and press statements they
released, had some potential if applied the right way. Packages for r like
*wordfish* enabled me to do so on my own. However as an autodidact (and way more
an political theorist than a computer scientist) both the preparation of the
text corpora and the analysis had some flaws which made things like text mining,
modelling as well as the interpretation and modification of the resulting tables
and graphs more cumbersome than probably necessary. Coming from this starting
point, I hope this course will make it possible for me to use the things I
already know in a more structured, informed and faster way. Of
particular interest for me are data visualization principles. After producing
long essays and theses for a while now, I certainly appreciate a well made graphical
representation of complex data.
### Autodidactic Basis
Websites I use as a self-taught r-user interested in text analysis:
* quantitative text mining on [textasdata.com](http://www.textasdata.com/)
* Some fancy applications of r, both descriptive statistics and more advanced
stuff on [r-bloggers](https://www.r-bloggers.com/)
## Top Expectations
* No more hand-cleaning of 2000 parliamentary speeches
* Being able to have a look under the surface of r-packages. How does topical clustering work from a computer-scientist's view and how do I avoid weird outcomes and bad graphical representation?
* Better Visualization! Maps in r! What does aes do?
## Introduction
Hey everyone! My name is Donatus and I am a graduate student in German Literature and Philosophy. I became interested in Digital Humanities via my research on contemporary writing as well as its predecessors.
### Expectations
What I expect from this course is to get in touch with some of the most important digital tools to work with text. On the one hand, I would like to be able to work with them myself primarily for matters of research. On the other hand, I would like to be able to understand the tools used by contemporary writers for their projects.
Exemplary projects:
* [Gregor Weichbrodt / Vicki Bennett – The Fundamental Questions (2014)] (http://0x0a.li/en/text/the-fundamental-questions/)
* [Michael Mandiberg – Print Wikipedia (2015)] (http://printwikipedia.com/#/about)
* [Gregor Weichbrodt – Dictionary of non-notable Artists (2016)] (http://0x0a.li/en/text/dictionary-of-non-notable-artists/)

# Coding for Digital Humanities
This is the markdown file that I created for the first assignment.
### My Expectations:
* learn the coding-for-DH basics
* learn how to apply the knowledge and practise as much as I can
* submit the first project successfully
In the end, it is going to be like [this] https://cdn.meme.am/instances/64369464.jpg

###Expectations
Since I am a [Computer Science (M.Sc.)](http://studium.fmi.uni-leipzig.de/studium/informatik/#c1422) student, I already know how to code in gereral. But I'd like to:
* learn some **R**
* learn something about **Digital Humanities**
* ...
* profit
#### Coding for Humanities
